Burgess, William (1832? - 23 MAR 1910)

Wm. Burgess, one of Neillsville’s old settlers, died at Monona, Iowa, March 23, 1910, of cancer of the stomach.  Mr. Burgess was born 77 years ago in Bangor, Maine.  Later he, with his parents, removed to Sheboygan and in 1866 was married to Miss Lydia Arnold of that place.  In 1872 Mr. Burgess and wife and his father and mother removed to Neillsville and all lived together int heir house on the north side.  After the death of Mr. Burgess’ father and mother, they still retained the home and lived there until they moved to Iowa some five years ago.  The death of Mr. Burgess will be a source of regret to many, as he had a large number of friends here.  Years ago it was a source of delight to him to play the violin at parties.  He was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.  Besides his wife he leaves two children, Frank of Tony and Mrs. Harriet Campbell of Minona.
