Pitcher, Charles H. #2 (1822 - 27 FEB 1910)

Mr. Charles H. Pitcher, one of the oldest residents of Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), died at his home in this city, Sunday, Feb. 27, 1910, after a lingering illness of two months.  About the first of January he was taken with a stroke of paralysis and since then has been perfectly helpless.  Death came as a relief to the patient sufferer.  Mr. Pitcher was born in Mandeville, New York State, in the year 1822.  In the year 1842 he was married to Miss Sarah Davis of Undagia County, New York State.  In 1857 he came to Milwaukee, residing there until 26 years ago when he came to Neillsville, where he has since made his home.  When first coming to Neillsville, he was in the employ of Mr. Mick and after a short time put up a cooper shop of his own on the south side.  His first wife died Oct. 22, 1890, and on Dec. 29, 1892, Mr. Pitcher was married again to Mrs. Anna Schultz of this city, who survives him.  Besides his wife he leaves three daughters and one son, Mrs. W. D. Mute and Mrs. Andrew Metcalf of Neillsville, Mrs. J. W. Wendling of Milwaukee, and Louis Pitcher of Merrillan, also 30 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, to mourn his loss.

Mr. Pitcher was a man well beloved by the whole community, having since boyhood taken God as his guide and advisor.  He was a member of the M. E. church and also of the Odd Fellows.  Everything that could be done by loving hands was done to prolong his last days, and although it is hard to say goodbye to one everyone loves so well, we know his righteous soul rests in heaven.  The funeral was held Wednesday under the auspices of the Odd Fellow Lodge, Rev. W. P. Burrows officiating.
