Hughes, Jack (John) #2 (1844? - 10 JUL 1909)

Last Saturday evening John Hughes died at the home of his brother, Pat, at Christie (Clark Co., Wis.), where he had been visiting.  Quick consumption was the cause of his death.  Mr. Hughes was born at East Frampton, Canada, and was 65 years of age.  He came to Clark County 44 years ago, and became prominently identified with the lumbering industry.  Of late years he has resided on the Ridge on the farm owned by himself and brother, Mike.  Mr. Hughes was married 10 years ago to Mary Gallagher and to this union one daughter was born.  Mrs. Hughes died about nine years ago and the daughter died last September.

Mr. Hughes was a man of exemplary habits and character.  He was honest in his dealings with his associates and careful and conscientious.  He leaves three brothers and one sister, Ed of Tucson, Ariz., Mike of Pleasant Ridge, Pat of Christie and Mrs. E. Lezotte of Waupaca.  The funeral was held Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
