Heart, William Wallace (29 May 1920 - 9 Nov. 1942)

Reburial services for Pvt. William Wallace Heart, 22, who died of malaria in Cabanatuam, prisoner of war camp in Luzon, at 2:00 p.m. at the Zink Funeral Home here. The Rev. Fred Smith, Colby, officiated and burial was made in the Abbotsford cemetery Sunday.

At the services the Misses Annabelle Klaar and Audrey Whitney, accompanied at the piano by C. L. Nelson, sang "Teach Me to Pray." A quartette from Colby, composed of Miss Klaar, Miss Whitney, Mr. Nelson, and Harry Bender, sang "Rock of Ages," accompanied at the piano by Miss Barbara Bender.

Special military rites were conducted at the cemetery under the auspice of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knaack-Thompson Post No. 865. The colors of the American Legion Hanson-Terrio Post No. 139, of Abbotsford, and Paulson-Leach Post No. 206 of the American Legion of Dorchester, were also presented at the rites.

Pallbearers were Donald Leichtnam, Fred and George Garbrecht, Harold Zank, Myron Greaser, and Morris Keefe, of Dorchester, Wis.

Mrs. H. T. Ketcham, Mrs. William Garbrecht, Mrs. M. C. Bunnell, Mrs. M. C. Thompson, and Mrs. Jack Weideman, all members of the American Legion Auxiliary, were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Color bearers were Maurice T. Thompson, Dale Elliott, Carl Johnson, Jr., of Abbotsford, and Dale Sorenson, Milton Kronschnabel and Leon Erlet, of Dorchester, Wis.

Color guards were Byron Leichtnam, Carl Gust, Robert Schraufnagel and Roy Lueschow, of Abbotsford and Eugene Pueschner and Kenneth Foley, of Dorchester, Wis.

After the military rites, Lloyd Smith sang "Sleep, Soldier-Boy, Sleep." The large flag that covered the casket was folded by Sgt. LeRoy Duffy, who accompanied the remains from Oakland, California, and V.F.W. Commander Robert Boss, and presented to Pvt. Heart’s mother, Mrs. John Fecker.

A salute was fired by Lewis Goldamer, Ross Greaser, Myron Kramer, Byron Leichtnam, Norman Olsen and Homer Smith. Taps were sounded by Bernard Laabs.

Out of town persons attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Carrol, Mrs. Joseph Coniglo, and Mrs. Homer Hutchins and children, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilde, Cameron; Mrs. Mabel Pickett, Mr. and Mrs. James Kladowski, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilde and daughter, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Skerwen and family, Wisconsin Rapids.

Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Schimke and family, New London; Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Fecker and son, Winneconne; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fecker, Mrs. George Fecker, Clarence Fecker and son, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Wilde and son, and Mr. and Mrs. John Frinak and daughter, Colby; and Fred Riplinger and daughter, Hazel, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Diethman, Riplinger.
