Matthias, Frank H. (17 Dec. 1875 - 25 July 1949)

Funeral services for Frank H. Matthias, Curtiss, who died Monday night at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, following a three weeks’ illness, were held this afternoon at the Norwegian Lutheran Church at Curtiss. The Rev. G. E. Borreson, former pastor of the church, came from Hayward to officiate at the rites. Internment was made in the church cemetery.

Mr. Matthias was born in Curtiss, Dec. 17, 1875, and was graduated from the Neillsville high school. He was married at Curtiss May 22, 1901, to Christine Thompson. After his marriage he was employed as a telegraph operator for the Soo Line Railroad at Glidden until 1915. He then farmed at Curtiss until his retirement in 1946. Since then he had resided in the village of Curtiss.

He was chairman of the town of Hoard for 15 years and served as chairman of the highway committee in Clark County for ten years. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Abbotsford, Wis.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Harold, Ashland; Col. Norman, of the U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.; Franklin, Rio De Janeiro, S.A., and Carl, Norfolk, Va.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. R. B. Meyer, Gig Arbor, Wash.; and three brothers, Alfred, State of Washington; Adolph, Withee; and Emil, Owen. There are eight grandchildren.
