Edward J. Crane, well known Wisconsin businessman, died Monday at 6:45 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Chippewa Falls after a long illness.

Mr. Carne was born July 2nd, 1878, at Weyauwega. In 1901 he married Alice Uttormark at Weyauwega. In 1919 Mr. Carne moved to Chippewa Falls where he has since resided.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Kenneth, Donald and Kathleen; and three sisters, Mrs. F. W. Starr, Nellie Crane and Anne Crane, all of Los Angeles. He has three grandchildren.

Mr. Crane began his career in the seed and feed business in partnership with his father. He was also in the general mercantile business in Stanley and the logging and sawmill business at Crane. He opened a seed and feed business in Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1911 and has expanded this business so it now includes 11 grain elevators throughout west central Wisconsin.

In 1923, Mr. Crane built the building in Thorp now occupied by the Thorp Flour & Feed Mill. After selling out in about 1926, he started up again in 1927 at the present location of the Crane Elevator Mill.

He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church and of the Masonic Order. He had served as a vestryman of his church for many years.
