Strojny, Robert J. (29 November 1947 - 28 April 2009)

 

Robert J. Strojny, age 61, of Thorp, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at his home.

 

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and inurnment followed in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday, May 3, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thorp Funeral Home, with a 7:00 p.m. rosary service, and at church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

 

Robert J. Strojny was born on November 29, 1947, in Stanley, WI to Joseph and Rose (Sawczuk) Strojny. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Thorp area, graduating from Thorp High School in 1966. He then went to work for a short time at Stanley Corporation before enrolling in a one year Ag program at Wausau Technical College. After completing the Ag program, Robert went to work at Blue Moon Cheese in Thorp from 1968 until 1980. He then rented a farm in 1989. Robert farmed his family farm until the time of his death.

He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the Thorp FFA Alumni, and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Robert had many interests, but especially enjoyed watching sports, fishing, bowling, snowmobiling in his younger years, collecting farm machinery, and collecting toy tractors.

 

He is survived by two brothers: Richard (Cheryl) of Chippewa Falls, and Edward (Kaye) of Thorp; one uncle, John Sawczuk of Thorp; one aunt, Lucille Sawczuk of St. Paul, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his father on February 4, 1989; his mother on November 5, 1995; one brother, William, on January 5, 1995; and one sister, Katherine, in infancy in 1953.
