Thorson, Viola (27 OCT 1896 - 13 MAR 1952)

Mrs. Harry Thorson, nee Viola Albert, was laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery Sunday afternoon, March 16th. Funeral services were conducted from Griebenow’s Funeral Home at three o’clock with Rev. W. C. Neilsen officiating. Pallbearers were Roy Auberg, Bert Beilfuss, Norbert Bruchert, Lester Himes, Felix Szymanski, and William Warns.

Mrs. Thorson passed away Thursday, March 13th, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where she was a patient being treated for cancer. Her health had been failing for the past couple of years but even though her strength was waning her spirit, will and determination was more abundant. She was 55 years of age at the time of her death.

Viola Albert was born on Oct. 27, 1896 at Chilton, Wis., later moving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Albert, to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). Here she attended the public schools, graduating with the class of 1913. She then continued her education by attending business college at Appleton for two years, after which she entered the field of education, serving as a school teacher in rural schools in the vicinity of Thorp for 12 years, until the time of her marriage.

On Sept. 16, 1923 she and Harry H. Thorson, Withee, were wed in a ceremony performed at Greenwood. This union was blessed with two children, one son Capt. Marvin Thorson, St. Paul, Minn. And a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Maxine) Christopherson, Withee.

In addition to caring for the provisions of a devout mother she has assisted her husband in their grocery business in Withee. Her interests weren’t confined to her home and business but expanded into the community as she was as active in civic and government affairs, being on of the oldest members of the Royal Neighbor Lodge at Withee. She held office continuously for the past 27 years. For years she served the community as secretary of the library board and for the past two years, up until the time of her death, has served the village as their treasurer.

Survivors in addition to her husband and two children are her father, Theodore Albert, Withee; three sisters, Mrs. Rueben (Alice) Wersch, Milwaukee; Mrs. Carl (Nora) Replogle, Waupaca and Mrs. Henry (Dorothy) Afrank, Garibaldi, Oregon; and two brothers, Edgar and Clinton, Withee.
