Myers, Henry #2 (1837 - 19 JUL 1907)

When Henry Myers was a child of seven years he was left without parents, and at the age of 14 he left his birthplace near Ithaca, N.Y. and struck out for himself. In 1851 he arrived at La Crosse, Wis., and started upon the work of caring for himself and carving out his own future. When he was about 19 or 20 years of age he took a job driving stage between Black River Falls and Staffordville, and at the age of 21 years he settled in what later became Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.).

He worked in the woods in various capacities, ran camps, took contracts, and commenced to prosper. He was at one time associated in the hotel business with a Mr. Johnson, later owning the drug store now owned by the C. C. Sniteman Co.

In 1881 Mr. Myers was united in marriage to Miss Mary Clark, and one daughter, Marion, was born to them. Mr. Myers built his family a residence in 1880 in preparation for his bride, and they lived there until his death last Friday night.

Mr. Myers was one of the oldest settlers in Clark County, having arrived here in 1858. His was an eventful life, and he was deserving of great reward for growing into industrious and upright manhood without the aid of mother or father. He attained business success only by patient labor and industry, and those who knew him intimately speak highly of his strength of character and determination of will. At the time of his death Mr. Myers was 70 years old, having been born in 1837. The funeral occurred from the family residence Sunday afternoon, Rev. Albert R. Rice officiating.
