Fogle, Jess (Marriage - 17 Apr. 1946)
In a quiet, home ceremony, Sgt. Merle Jenks, son of Mrs. Maxwell Jenks, and Miss Jess Fogle, daughter of Mrs. Mattie Fogle, of Austin, Texas, were united in marriage. The Rev. G. E. Griffiths read the double ring ceremony at 4:00 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon.
For the occasion the bride wore a light blue wool suit and a corsage of pink roses.
Their only attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Kuehnast. Mrs. Kuehnast wore a suit of dark beige and a corsage of daffodils and sweet peas.
Following the ceremony a dinner for the bridal party was held at the Jenks home where cut flowers were used in table and home decorations.
In the evening the members of the Presbyterian choir attended the reception. The groom was a former member of the choir.
Before her marriage the bride had received her honorable discharge from the Women’s Army Corps. She had received her basic training at Ft. Oglethorpe, and was stationed at Ft. Hood. She was graduated from the Austin, Texas high school and attended Mary Hardin and Baylor College at Belton, Texas, and was a telephone operator in Austin prior to entering the service.
The groom, a graduate of the Abbotsford high school, attended Central State Teachers’ College for three years and was a member of Chi Delta Rho fraternity.
He was in the service since September 27, 1944, in the infantry, and spent 18 months overseas in the Pacific area.
Sgt. And Mrs. Jenks will be here until the expiration of his furlough, May 30. He re-enlisted and will be in the air corps when he reports for reassignment.
