Jens, Harry (6 JUN 1885 - 18 DEC 1950)

This afternoon at two o’clock funeral services were conducted from the Griebenow Funeral Parlos for Harry Clifton Jens. Rev. W. Myron Glick, pastor of the First Congregational Church of this city officiated and burial was made in the Town of green Grove. Pallbearers were H. V. Anderson, John Burtard, William Mattson and Henry Mauel, Owen; and Jake Johnson and Henry Peterson, Curtiss.

The deceased was 65 years, 6 months and 12 days of age at the time of his death, which occurred suddenly when he was stricken with a heart attack while driving his car down the main street of the village of Withee at about 10:40 Monday forenoon. Three years ago he had suffered a stroke, from which he made a remarkable recovery and during the last several years had been ailing with diabetes. However, he awaken Monday morning apparently feeling real good. He started his car and came uptown to Owen, visiting the post office and spending some time on the street visiting with several of his friends. Later after going to Withee to transact some business he was observed cranking his car, which had stalled and then only a few minutes after getting it started and driving away he was stricken with a fatal heart attack.

Harry Jens was born on June 6, 1885 at New Holstein, Wis. On Dec. 3, 1908 he was united in marriage to Bertha Miller in a marriage ceremony performed in Milwaukee, Wis. He had been a resident of the city of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past 10 years. Up until three years ago he owned and operated the Curve Inn with his son Lester. Previous to coming to Owen he had farmed and lived in the village of Curtiss where for many years he operated a meat market.

Harry Jens possessed a mild mannered easy going personality making him one to become easily acquainted with and liked. He was a devoted husband and father to his wife and children that survive him. Thos mourning his sudden death are his widow: one son, Lester, Owen; two daughters, Mrs. Lester Meyers, Appleton; and Mrs. Paul Kersten, Eureka, Ill.; two sisters, Anne Bosma, Fond du Lac, Wis.; and Katie Seyfert, New Holstein, Wis.; several grandchildren and numerous friends.

Preceding him in death were four brothers, one sister and a daughter, Esther.
