Weideman, Mr./Mrs. August (50th Anniv. - 17 Nov. 1945)

Mr. and Mrs. August Weideman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 17 by holding open house from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. followed by a supper at 5:00 o’clock for about 30 guests.

Cards were played at the Royal Neighbor’s hall. Prizes went to John Schefsick, men’s first; Rolland Gasch, second; and low to William Becherer, Mrs. Willard Becherer won ladies’ first prize; Mrs. William Becherer, second; and Mrs. Carl Schuerman, low. Door prizes went to Miss Laura Olson and Willie Klieman.

Mr. Weideman was born in Sheboygan Falls on Sept. 5, 1869, where he lived until he was 17 years old. He then moved to Abbotsford with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Weideman, Sr. Most of his life since then was spent in the town of Holton.

Mrs. Weideman, who was Bertha Wolter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Wolter, was born on Sept. 28, 1878 in the town of Holton on the farm where she spent her entire life until moving to the village of Abbotsford two and a half years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Weideman were married in the Lutheran church in the town of Holton by the Rev. Steffens, on Nov. 17, 1895. Attendants at the wedding were Frederick Weideman, Willie Kleiman, Ida Haas and Bertha Prange, the late Mrs. Bertha Fink.

They made their home on the farm in the town of Holton with Mrs. Weideman’s parents until their death and continued to live there until Feb. 1, 1943 when they sold their farm to their son, Edwin.

Six children were born to them. One daughter, Lizzie, died at the age of 7 and the remaining children are Mrs. Nora Lindberg, town of Hull, Henry and Edwin, town of Holton, Freda, Milwaukee; and Mrs. Anna Patzwald, Eau Claire.

Mr. Weideman is one of five children still living and Mrs. Weideman is an only living child on her side.

Among those from away in attendance at the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Zich and children, Fall Creek; Miss Freda Weideman, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Patzwald, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schulk, Fenwood; Mr. and Mrs. William Becherer, Colby; Fred Weideman, Two Harbors, Minn.

There are four grand children: Beverly Lindberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albin Lindberg, Joanne and Hazel Weideman, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weideman; and Alfred, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Weideman.
