Schmirler, Dorothy Amalia (21 July 1934 - 8 Nov. 1942)

An Angel high mass was sung for Dorothy Amalia Schmirler, 8 years old, who died of embolism, Sunday evening, in St. Bernard’s Catholic church, Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock. The Rev. Albert Schmirler, of Rugby, N. Dak., uncle for whom Dorothy acted as bride at the celebration of his first high mass last June, was the celebrant of the mass. The Rev. Francis Brockman gave the funeral sermon.

"Ave Maria" was sung at the offertory of the mass and "Dear Angel Ever at My Side" at the close of the rites.

Acting as pallbearers were her brother, Andrew, and three cousins, Dennis Schmirler, Dennis Ellenbeker and Joseph Calmus.

Internment was made in the St. John the Baptist church cemetery at Wuertzburg.

Classmates from the Abbotsford school as well as some of her former classmates of St. Mary’s parochial school of Colby and teachers attended the funeral in a body. A large number of relatives as well as friends also were present at the mass.

Dorothy Amalia Schmirler was born July 21, 1934, in Ladysmith. She attended kindergarten there before coming to Abbotsford with her parents on Sept. 19, 1940. She attended St. Mary’s parochial school at Colby for two years and in September of this year was enrolled in the Abbotsford schools.

Dorothy had been in apparently good health until this fall. But only the past week had she been seriously ill with endocarditis. Embolism caused her death, Sunday evening about 6 o’clock.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Schmirler, Jr., brother, Andrew, 10, and sister, Ann Marie, 4. There are also her paternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Schmirler, Sr., town of Frankfort, and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Calmus, town of Johnson.
