Kleiman, Lillian Elizabeth (Marriage - 16 May 1942)

Miss Lillian Elizabeth Kleiman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kleiman, Town of Holton, became the bride of Leo Underwood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orrie Underwood of Dorchester, on Saturday afternoon, May 16. The Rev. H. W. Neunaber read the marriage service at 2:00 o’clock in the Trinity Lutheran church at Athens.

For the occasion the bride wore an entrained princess style gown of white ninon, designed with lace at the shoulders and the puffs of the long sleeves, a sweetheart neckline and tiny white buttons down the back to the waist line.

Her finger tip veil was lace-edged and fell from a head dress of seed pearls, orange blossoms and lilies of the valley. Swansonia and ferns with white ribbons showered the bridal bouquet of pink roses and white carnations carried by the bride. A single strand of peals, a gift of the groom, was her only ornament.

Attending the bride as maid of honor was her niece, Wanita Gosse, of Colby in a frock of pink, Miss Theoman Underwood, the groom’s sister, in blue, was bridesmaid. Their identical frocks of marquisette and lace were offset by shoulder corsages of roses, swansonia and the single strand pearl necklaces, the gift of the bride. Little doll hats of matching color were worn by the attendants.

Don Underwood, who was best man for his brother, and Norman Gosse attended the groom.

A reception and 6:00 o’clock dinner was held at the home of the bride’s parents. Thirty guests were present. The home was decorated in streamers of white, pink and blue which were held to the center of the room with a large, white wedding bell. The table was decorated with a three tier wedding cake, lighted candles and cut flowers. In the evening, a wedding dance was held at Wiedenhoeft’s pavilion.

Mr. Underwood, who is engaged in the trucking business, and his bride are making their home for the present with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Kleiman.
