Abrahamson, Charles A. #2 (9 Mar 1929 - 6 MAR 2009)

Charles A. "Chuck" Abrahamson, 79, Sturgeon Bay, passed into eternal life, peacefully with his family at his side, on March 6, 2009, at Door County Memorial Hospital, following a long and courageous battle with heart and lung disease. Funeral arrangements are pending at Huehn’s Funeral Home, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sturgeon Bay.

Charles Albert Abrahamson was born in Sturgeon Bay on March 9, 1929, to Albert and Mary (nee Hogan) Abrahamson. He lived in Sturgeon Bay until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, during World War ll; he served three years, and was stationed in the Philippines and Guam. After his military service, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he received a teaching degree, with a minor in mathematics. While attending Platteville, he played and later coached football. In 1954, he played football for the Green Bay Packers under Coach Vince Lombardi.

His first teaching position was as an industrial arts instructor and football coach in Paradise, Mich. Later, he taught and coached in various cities throughout Wisconsin. In 1968, he, his wife Betty (nee Trzebiatowski), and family moved to Loyal, where he taught industrial arts, driver’s education, and coached the football and golf teams. After 26 years of teaching at Loyal High School, he and his wife, Betty, retired to his childhood home of Sturgeon Bay.

In 2005, he and Betty celebrated their golden wedding anniversary of St. Joseph Catholic Church, surrounded by their large family and Loyal friends.

Survivors include Betty, his cherished wife of 53 years, who nursed him through his many medical crises; their eight children, John (Karen) Abrahamson, Livonia, Mich., Joe (Debbie) Abrahamson, Seminole, Fla., Anne (Gordy) Rosploch, Plymouth, Mary (Ralph) Waldhart, Wausau; Susan (Leonard) Wolf, Granton, Therese (Craig) Brown, Mosinee, Lisa (Timothy) Baumgartner, Loyal, and Thomas (Teresa) Abrahamson, Denmark; 17 grandchildren, Matt, Adam, Jen (Eddie) Roque, Tim, Michael, Becky, Jonathon, Eric, Amanda, Katherine, Travis, Connor, Jade, Seth, Jacob and Luke; and 2 great-grandchildren, Isaac and Delaney.

He was a wonderful person, loving father and husband, an avid sportsman, golfer, card enthusiast, and friend to all who knew him; he will be truly missed.

Special thanks from the family go to the nurses and staff of Door County Memorial Hospital, Ministry Home Care, Father Dominic, and to Dr. Richard Hogan for their compassionate care.

Huehn’s Funeral Home, Sturgeon Bay, is assisting the family with arrangements.
