Fokett, William (1873? - 30 JAN 1950)

Wm. Fokett, 76 years of age, was found dead and frozen in his farm home, where he resided along, a mile north and one and three-quarter miles east of the village of Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.) Monday evening, by Henry Blanke.

Fokett was last seen at 7:30 Sunday morning by M. Ostenson’s daughter, who said that she saw Fokett walking back and forth on the highway. Later Monday when neighbors thought if funny they hadn’t seen him around his farm buildings, plus the fact that no smoke was seen coming from his chimney. Mr. Blanke decided to visit the farm. The house was ransacked with Fokett lying dead and frozen on the floor in a woodshed, adjacent to the kitchen. Blake immediately left to summon another neighbor, Walter Leuth, who returned to the farm with him. County authorities were notified by the men.

County Coroner John Bergeman, Neillsville, said that death was due to a slight stroke. Authorities expressed the belief that the house was ransacked by Fokett himself, who must have stumbled about trying to aid himself.

The farm was visited by Sheriff Kutsche, District Attorney Gorsegner, the Coroner and Capt. Wm. Nelson, who have decided after due investigation that no inquest will be held in the death.

Fokett’s only relatives are a brother and sister who live at Antigo, Wis. Funeral services will be conducted later this week at Antigo, with burial also to be made there.
