Laabs, Lydia (14 Feb. 1876 - 2 Apr. 1962)

Mrs. Lydia Laabs passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Glenzer, in the town of Green Grove, Clark county, Monday at 10:20 P.M. at the age of 96 years. The body is reposing at the Lulloff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, Apr. 6, at 2:00 o’clock at St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Green Grove, Rev. Howard Timmerman officiating, and internment will be made in the parish cemetery.

Lydia Sommers was born on February 14, 1876, in Sheboygan county and moved to the Green Grove area with her parents when about four years of age. She was married on August 25, 1898, to Ernest Laabs in Green Grove by Pastor Ruring. After their marriage, the couple farmed on what is now her son Walter’s farm. Her husband died on January 26, 1908, when Walter was seven years of age and Hilda was five. The children helped her from that time on.

Mrs. Laabs was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church and an officer and member of the Ladies’ Aid of that congregation.

Surviving are two children, Walter Laabs and Mrs. Hubert (Hilda) Glenzer, both of the town of Green Grove, P.O. Owen; one brother, Theodore Sommers of Unity, Route 1; one sister, Mrs. Paul (Pauline) Woik of Owen; six grand children and 13 great grand children.

Three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
