Sorenson, Harold Martin (5 March 1924 - 15 February 2009)

Harold Martin Sorenson, 84, of rural Owen, passed away at Clark County Health Care Center on Sunday, February 15, 2009. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday February 22, 2009, at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. A 6 p.m. vigil service was also held on Sunday at the funeral home led by Father Benjamin Franklin. Further visitation was held on Monday, February 23, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. A Mass of Christian Burial took place at 11 a.m. Burial took place at Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Hixon.

On March 5, 1924, Harold was born to Emil and Martha (Twait) Sorenson. He received his education from Longwood State Graded School.

On Thanksgiving Day (November 22, 1956) he married the love of his life, the late Louise Kobylarczyk. Together, they dairy farmed in the Town of Longwood (rural Owen) on their ancestral farmstead for many years. With extreme pride, they constructed their ranch style home. They loved farming. Harold especially admired his herd of black and white Holstein dairy cattle. He achieved his family’s century farm salute recognition of 1886-1986 in August 1986. In December 2004, he sold his dairy farm to neighbors Dennis and Sherry Rose. He retained a small parcel, keeping his house for "the retirement years." In his free time, he built multiple home lawn projects, took trips to many casinos and enjoyed polka music, especially the Whoopee John Orchestra at what was Merry Ol’Gardens Ballroom in rural Longwood. Many people in the Owen-Withee area often remember Harold from driving his blue 1952 International L-120 pickup in many local parades.
