Miller, Leo D. (6 Aug. 1922 - 1 Sept. 2001)

Abbotsford, Wis. - Leo D. Miller, 79, Abbotsford, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen where he had resided since June.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Father Al Jakubowski will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Kurt Miller, Shawn [part of the middle of the text was cut off and was not available at the time of transcription]

Leo’s parents retired and moved into Jefferson and the newlyweds farmed in the homestead for the next 13 years. In 1958 they purchased a dairy farm west of Colby where they lived until 1980. At that time they moved to Abbotsford and purchased the Abby Car Wash in 1981.

Due to failing health they sold the car wash and their home in 1995 and moved to Elm St. in Abbotsford, Wis. At that time they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Leo enjoyed woodworking.

Leo has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since he was 19 years old and was a charter member of Colby Knights of Columbus Chapter 5127. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby until 1980 when he transferred to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford, Wis. Leo was also a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants.

Leo is survived by his wife, Viola Miller of Abbotsford, Wis. He is the father of eight children, Patrick Miller of Wausau, Teresa (Robert) Misener of Washburn, Mary (Alan) Griepentrog of Abbotsford, Regina (Dale) Bauer of Mazomanie, Suzanne (Joe) Wirrer of Hillsboro, Kathleen (Brian) Hauser of Merrill, Janet (Douglas) Kops of Colby and John Miller of Dorchester, Wis. He is grandfather to 23 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and great-grandfather of fourteen. He is also survived by one sister, Nora Garrity of Jefferson, Iowa; and a brother, Glen Miller of Jefferson, Iowa.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Dunivan; one granddaughter, Jamie Kops; one step-grandson, Corey Griepentrog; and one son-in-law, James Diedrich.
