Johnson, Walter J. (23 Feb. 1881 - 15 June 1940)

Walter J. Johnson, a former resident of Abbotsford, Wisconsin died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home at Stevens Point, Saturday morning, at the age of 59.

Mr. Johnson was born at Stevens Point, February 23, 1881. He entered the employ of the Soo Line in 1898 working for two years as a call boy and as a fireman from 1900 to 1904.

In 1900 Mr. Johnson came to live in Abbotsford and four years later he was married to Miss Hazel Huff of Stanley. He built the house which is now occupied by the Carl Gust family and lived here until 1911.

Serving as an engineer from 1904 on he was transferred in 1911 to Stevens Point and later to Athens where he was engineer on the "Ane" run for about eight years.

Mr. Johnson was a charter member of the Abbotsford lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons. At the time of his death he was a member of three Masonic bodies at Stevens Point, Evergreen lodge No. 93, Forest Chapman No. 34 and Crusade Commandery No. 17, Knights Templar. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church at Stevens Point, Tuesday morning at ten o’clock and internment was made in Forest cemetery.

Surviving Mr. Johnson are his wife, a son, Cecil, of Michigan City, Ind., a brother, Emmons Johnson, Stevens Point, and a sister, Mrs. Alice Le Batt, of Little Rock, Arkansas.
