Asplin, Gertrude (9 December 1893 - 17 February 1971)

Funeral services for Mrs. James (Gertrude) Asplin, 77, of Neillsville, who died February 17, were held Saturday, February 20, at 1:30 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin Nickel of the United Methodist Church officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Asplin was born December 9, 1893, in Stanley, the daughter of Matthew and Addie (Warner) Story. She was educated in the Stanley area. Her marriage to James Asplin took place in Stanley on July 28, 1915. They farmed for 30 years. Mr. Asplin was with the University Soil Department at Madison for 14 years. Following his retirement in 1963 the Asplin’s moved to Waupaca. After her husband’s death on December 16, 1968, Mrs. Asplin came to live in Neillsville.

A sister, Mrs. Ollie Chismore of Evansville, is the only close survivor. There are numerous nieces and nephews living in the area.

Pallbearers were: Lewis Shaw, Lloyd Sacket, Robert Free, Cal Baker and Darrell and Duane Story. Arlyn Mills sang “Rock of Ages” and “Abide with me”, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

Atkinson.
