Schelling, Charles (1872? - 13 Feb. 1960)

Charles Schelling of Abbotsford, Wisconsin died Saturday of old age complications at Mt. View Sanitarium at Wausau, where he had been a patient the past nine months, at the age of 88 years. Funeral services were held at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby Tuesday afternoon, Rev. David Passet officiating, and burial was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Dr. W. W. Payne, Fred Schwierske, C. J. Bane, Walter Mueller, Lawrence Mueller and Robert Unger.

Mr. Schelling was born in Illinois and was married in Iowa on January 26, 1898, to the former Estelle Stall who preceded him in death in April, 1957. They farmed in Iowa until 1920.

In 1920, the couple moved onto a farm in the town of Hull about five miles east of Colby, Wis. After retiring, they lived in Colby several years and shortly after the death of his wife, Mr. Schelling moved to Abbotsford where he made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Schelling, until he entered the sanitarium. He was a member of the United Brethren church in Iowa. He was well and favorably known in Colby, especially by older people, honest in all his dealings, and, being of a congenial disposition, had many friends.

Surviving are his son, Noel, three grand children and a brother, Ernest Schelling of Brawley, Calif. A brother and a sister preceded him in death.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Arland Stall of Oxfordville, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rice of Iron Mountain, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Gust Vandehey of Escanaba, Mich., James Vandehey of Auburndale, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Vandehey of Abbotsford, Wis.
