Gregory, Angeline ‘Angie’ (25 December 1935 – 17 February 2024)

Angeline (Shefchik) Gregory, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the home of Shelby and Rick Osborn on February 17, 2024.

Angeline was named after the angels when she was born on December 25, 1935, in Loyal, to the late Hildegard (Renz) and Emil Shefchik Sr. Angie was one of ten Shefchik siblings raised on the Shefchik farm north of Loyal. She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and Loyal High School and graduated in the LHS Class of 1953. Angie’s high school sweetheart was Arthur Lee Gregory, and they enjoyed movie dates, family dinners and car races before they married on September 15, 1955, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal.

Coming from a farming family, hard work was second nature. After high school, Angie worked as a bookkeeper for Zupanc’s Ford in Loyal followed by a year with the U.S. Census Bureau in 1960. She held accounting positions with Klinner and Associates, CPA in Marshfield; Praschak Machine Company in Marshfield; Pathfinder Homes in Spencer; Roehl Trucking, and at V&H Ford in Marshfield until she retired in 1996. She was very proud of her 40+ years of working outside the home while also raising four daughters. She often recalled that getting a raise in the 1950s meant an increase of $.05/hour.

In the early years of their marriage, Angie and Art moved for one year close to family in Watertown, but thought it would be easier to raise four daughters in a rural setting, so they returned to the corner on Hwy H in Granton, the former Gruenke Cheese Factory & former Budweiser Beer Distributor Warehouse, where they raised their four daughters. Art and Angie enjoyed dancing, listening to Howie Sturtz, and many activities with their long-time friends. Art and Angie were married for 39 years before Art’s passing on September 9, 1994.

Angie loved fun gatherings with family and friends, camping, waterskiing (without getting her hair wet), gardening, snowmobiling, bowling, canning her garden vegetables (best pickles ever), shopping for bargains, traveling, and playing cards and shaking dice with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

After Art passed away, Angie moved to Medford and was fortunate to find an RV travel mate, Daryl Wendt. Angie RV traveled around the U.S.A. and Mexico for 20+ years. After being tethered to an office for four decades, Angie loved exploring and shopping in small new towns, meeting new friends, and visiting her daughters and family along the way. Fun fact: Angie had a hard time passing a casino without stopping in for a quick pull of the slot machines. After she hung up the RV keys, Angie lived at the Wells Nature Center on 21st Street in Marshfield, and then made her way back to Angie and Art’s homestead to live with her youngest daughter Shelby and her husband, Rick Osborn.

Angie is survived by her four daughters and grandchildren: BGen (USAF ret) Sandra Gregory (Col. Tom Bradley, USAF ret) of Fairfax, Virginia, and their children Robert Bradley (Catherine Nguyen) of Reston, Virginia and Bryan Bradley (Mandy) of Richmond, Virginia; Sue Ann Gregory, Esquire, of San Antonio, Texas; Sheryl Gregory Weatherford of Germantown, Tennessee, and her children Andrea Weatherford of Nashville, Tennessee, and Army CPT Gregory Weatherford (Kaitlyn) of Olympia, Washington; Shelby Osborn (Rick) of Granton, and their children Jeffrey Osborn (Sarah) of Athens, USAF Lt. Col. Jodi Osbeck (USAF Lt. Col. Mark Osbeck) of Clovis, New Mexico, and MSgt (USAF ret) James Osborn (Katie) of Suffolk, Virginia.

Angie was also blessed to have ten great grandchildren: Katelynn Osborn, Nathan Osborn, Ryan Osborn, Emily Osborn, Carissa Osborn, Jacob Osborn, Gunnar Osbeck, Zoe Osbeck, Adeline Osborn and Judd Bradley. Angeline is also survived by her siblings: Jean Menehan (Larry dec.) of Racine, Joan Abbott (Dave) of Lanark, Illinois, and Emil Shefchik Jr. (Susan) of Cedarburg, and her sisters-in-law: Diann Molle Shefchik (Richard dec.) and Mary Shefchik (Elmer dec.). Additionally, Angie is survived by at least 45 nieces and nephews on the Shefchik and Gregory family trees – she loved them all.

Angeline was predeceased by her husband Arthur Lee Gregory, her companion Daryl Wendt, her son-in-law Keith “Andy” Weatherford, her siblings: Lawrence Shefchik (Nina dec.), Edward Shefchik, Eleanor Welch (Jack dec.), Richard Shefchik (Diann Molle), Raymond Shefchik (Ruth dec.), Elmer Shefchik (Mary), and her sisters-in law: Beverly Beaver (Johnny dec.), Donna Froeba (Tom dec.), and Sharon Durst (Gerry dec.), and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to her primary caregivers Velora Roehl, Mary Pohlman and Brenda Schlinsog, along with many others who helped care for her during the past several years. Angie enjoyed their company, their cooking and beating them at cards (occasional cheating allowed).

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on July 19, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church and interment will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anthony’s Parish, P.O. Box 69, Loyal, Wisconsin 54446, or to Kitties’ Warriors (dedicated to breast cancer support and led by Angie’s great-niece Kristina Russell) at P.O. Box 559, Itasca, IL 60143, or online at https://www.kittieswarriors.org.
