Schoengarth, Helen Cheryl (6 June 1952 - 23 November 2008)

Helen Cheryl Schoengarth (nee Mergenthaler), 56, of Wilmington, DE, passed away of a rare brain disease Nov. 23, 2008, at Heartland Hospice House.

Helen was born June 6, 1952, and united in marriage May 7, 1988, to Robert Schoengarth. She was a graduate of Conrad High School and was a baton twirler in the marching band. Helen was a member of St. Mark’s UM Church, where she was an assistant treasurer. She was the vice president of a manufacturer’s representative company in Wilmington for 20 years. Helen was a season ticket holder for the Blue Rocks baseball team. She would go to spring training every March to watch the Blue Rocks and enjoyed cooking for them and making bags for when they were on the road. She also served as a president and vice-president of the Blue Rocks Booster Club. She enjoyed riding with her husband on their motorcycle.

Helen is survived by her husband, Robert Schoengarth; her daughter, Jennifer Helen Adams; her parents, Fred and Dolores Mergenthaler; two brothers, Daryl (Debbie) Mergenthaler and Dain (Janine) Mergenthaler; her sister, Tammy (Mike) Quig; her godson, Cody Quig; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; her goddaughter, Heather Adank; and her grandson, Alex. She will be dearly missed by family and friends, her church family and her family in Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Frederick Mergenthaler.

A service was held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at St. Mark’s UM Church. Burial was at Gracelawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wilmington Blue Rocks Booster Club.
