Frederick C. Diedrich, Jr., boilerman third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Diedrich of Colby, is serving aboard the heavy cruiser USS Des Moines, flagship of the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean which is taking part in the vast fleet maneuver known as "Operation Big Deal."

Frederick C. Diedrich, Jr., boilerman third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Diedrich of Colby, is serving aboard the heavy cruiser USS Des Moines, flagship of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, operating in the Mediterranean area. The Des Moines took part in the combined exercise, "Top Weight," April 9-23 with units from 5 NATO nations. The maneuver was designed to test the capabilities of the NATO organization.
