Meyer, Laura V. (Beyerl) (December 19, 1912 - December 19, 2008)

Laura V. (Beyerl) Meyer, 96, died December 19, 2008, at the Colby Retirement Home.

Laura was born December 19, 1912 to Frank and Rosina (Gittle) Beyerl.

She attended Colby High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1937.

Laura was united in holy marriage on May 2, 1939 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby to Ervin A. Meyer, of Colby, Wis. They farmed in the township of Hull, Marathon County until their retirement. Laura moved into Colby in July, 1998.

She was employed at the Colby Telephone Office for five years, two years at St. Joseph Hospital and ten years as a nurse at Colonial House Nursing Home in Colby, Wis. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and St. Regina’s Group. She was also a member of Colby Senior Citizens, Colby Homemakers, Meyer Card Club.

Laura will always be remembered for her devotion to her family and church, her thoughtfulness and kind words to all, her many friends, and an optimism about life.

Laura was a talented seamstress, tireless chef, and avid reader. She liked to square dance with Ervin, and never passed up a card game.

Laura is also survived by her children: James (Barbara) Meyer, Norridge, IL, Gerald (Jean) Meyer, Pine Island, MN, Charles (Betty) Meyer, Greensburg, PA, Mary (Elly) Suckow, Unity, Wis.

She is also survived by four sisters, Sophie (Earl) Schigley, Colby, Helen (George) Edlebeck, De Pere, Margaret (Ed) Charnitz, Milwaukee, Marie (Herb) Waldhart, Stetsonville; one brother Jacob (Rosemary) Beyerl, Colby; and one step-sister, Genevieve (Ernest) Fiend, Milwaukee, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and godchildren.

Laura is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin; sisters Martha (William) Dolan, Ida (Ray) Draxler and Gertrude Godlewski; brothers Arnold, John, Paul and Francis Beyerl; stepsister Angeline Grieger; and step-brothers Gilbert Greiger and Anthony and Frank Zettler.

A celebration of her life was held at St. Mary’s Church in Colby, Wisconsin at 11:00 AM., Monday, December 22. The Rev. Anandran Rajendran presided. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Colby, Wis. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, December 21, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby with a Rosary service at 6:00 p.m., and on Monday, December 22 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at St. Mary’s Church in Colby, Wis.
