White, Elaine (29 NOV 1947)

A very pretty wedding took place at St. Camilla Church in Chicago, Ill., on Saturday, Nov. 29, 1947, at 3:30 p.m., when Elaine White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph White, was united in marriage to Mr. LaVerne Steele, also of Chicago, Ill.

The bridal party consisted of the bride and groom, two bridesmaids, Miss Roslyn White, the bride’s cousin, and Miss Evelyn Kenney, the bride’s girlfriend, and their ushers, Cecil Steele, the groom’s brother, and Eugene Kolaczkowski, the bride’s cousin; a maid of honor, Miss Lucille Wojtkiewicz, the bride’s aunt; a flower girl, Kathleen Swedberg, the bride’s cousin; and the ring bearer, Gerald White, the bride’s brother.

The bride wore a long sleeved princess styled, white satin gown. It had a sweetheart neckline embroidered with pearls and a long train which flowed gracefully. The fingertip, lace edged veil was attached to a crown of pearls. She carried a beautiful bouquet of white chrysanthemums.

The bridesmaids wore long faille taffeta dresses in pastel shades, pink, blue and green. These were effectively designed with a quaint peplum in the back. The hats were made of the same material and color as the dresses, into high, rounded brims, with large tulle bows at the sides. They also wore long gloves to match the dresses. They carried lovely, pale orchid bouquets of chrysanthemums. The maid of honor carried yellow chrysanthemums.

The three-year-old flower girl wore a yellow dress of the same material and design as the bridesmaids. Her bonnet was tied under her chin with a large bow. She carried a pretty little nosegay.

Her six-year-old escort, Gerald White, wore a tuxedo suit. He carried the rings on a white satin pillow.

The groom and the ushers wore the conventional tuxedos.

The church ceremony was very pretty. The bride was led down a white carpeted aisle, which was garlanded overhead with roses, by her father, while the organ played "Here Come the Bride." During the marriage ceremony, Elaine’s friend, Betty Riley, sang "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicus."

After the ceremony, a large reception was held at the Jugo-Slav Hall on the South Side of Chicago. About 200 relatives and friends attended a gala celebration, a real Polish wedding. The out of town guests present were: Mrs. E. Wojtkiewicz and her son, William, Mrs. John Balcer, Mrs. Pauline Barski and Mrs. Leonard Mizerka with her son Johnny, all from Thorp, Wis. Others were: Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barski from Stillwater, Minn.; Mrs. Kate Niespodziaski from Ashland, Wi.s., and Mrs. Helen Mazur and her son Daniel, from Buffalo, N.Y.

Elaine White is remember here (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) as Mrs. E. Wojtkiewicz’s granddaughter.

All her friends and relatives join in wishing the newlyweds a very happy married life. They will make their residence in Chicago.
