Quist, Charles (9 Nov. 1868 - 17 July 1958)

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home in Owen for Charles Quist, age 89, who died last Thursday evening at his home. Rev. Stone officiated and burial was made in Lake View Cemetery at Turtle Lake, (Wis).

Mr. Quist was born in Smoland, Sweden, on November 9, 1868, and came to this country at the age of 13, making his home at Red Wing, Minn. When a young man, he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Assinboine, Mont. On June 23, 1892, he married Christina Johnson. They made their home in St. Paul, Minn., where he was a motorman on the street car line from 1890 to 1895. From there they moved to Almena where they farmed until 1920. He assisted in building the first roads in Almena township, served many years as town chairman and on the school board. In 1920, he purchased a farm at Colby which he operated until 1944 when he retired and moved to Owen.

Surviving are one son, Earl Quist, of Duluth, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. George (Gertrude) Kowalk of Colby, Mrs. Otto (Mabel) Kowalk and Mrs. Fred (Gladys) Baumgart, both of Owen; two grand children, Duane Baumgart of Marshfield and Betty Kowalk of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

His wife died on February 22, 1957, and six children also preceded him in death.
