Alice Marie Somers, age 86, of Waupaca, was peacefully called to eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Bethany Home in Waupaca.

Alice was born in Franklinville, N.Y., on November 14, 1926, the youngest daughter of the late Lars and Mary (Miller) Larson. The family moved to a Medford farm where Alice and her siblings were raised. She married Everett "Ev" Somers on October 8, 1971. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2009.

Alice and Ev owned Ev's Red Owl and later Ev's Supermarket in Waupaca, where she worked hand in hand with Ev in the business. She was an active member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Alice loved the Lord and always focused on the positive side of those she met and the challenges she faced. She enjoyed entertaining friends and spending time with family. She and Ev retired to their John's Lake home in Wautoma and wintered in Mercedes, TX. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, win or lose.

Alice is survived by her children, Jim (Cindy) Johnson, Bella Vista, AR, Carol (Al) Schmidt, Berlin, Mary Stevens, Sitka, AK, Dave (Lori) Johnson, Wautoma, Larry (Beth) Somers, Iola, Debbie (Steve) Peterson, Owen and Tammy (special friend Rick) Somers, Vernon, NJ; a sister, Susan Gauger, Westchester, PA; grandchildren, Michelle (Angelo) Carini, Adam (Shannon) Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Krystle Somers, Trisha (Luke) Severt, Brittany Peterson, Logan Peterson, Scott Magill and Brandon (Crystel) Magill; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and a grandson, Tyler Peterson.

A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waupaca at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, with Reverend Loren Fritz officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment of cremains will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona, Minn. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Alice Marie Somers.
