Nienow, Nancy (Marriage - 24 Aug. 1957)

Miss Nancy Nienow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Nienow of Edgar, and Allen Edward Schraufnagel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schraufnagel of Abbotsford, exchanged marriage vows at services conducted in Peace Lutheran church near Edgar Saturday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock, Rev. Henry Krikau officiating at the marriage rites.

The bride’s sister, Kay Colleen Nienow, as maid of honor was attired in a floor-length dress of aqua peau de soie over taffeta. The strapless bodice had a pleated top with a stole over the shoulders. A picture hat of soft nylon straw and aqua streamers completed her attire, and she carried a heart-shaped basket of pompoms and carnations tinted to match her dress.

Similary styled gowns of bronze were worn by the bridesmaids, Arlene Baumgart of Wausau, Donna Mae Nienow, cousin of the bride of Stratford, and Pat Johnson of Colby, Wis. Their heart-shaped baskets were filled with fall flowers to match their bronze dresses, and were entwined with trailing of ivy.

The bride chose a floor length gown of Chantilly type lace over satin. The molded bodice had a scooped neckline with long sleeves tapering to points over her wrists. The bouffant skirt had three layers of tulle and nylon net with appliquéd lace on the lower skirt line. French silk illusion formed her finger-tip veil caught to a half-hat of lace trimmed with pleated tulle, seed pearls and iridescent sequins. A white orchid centered with white roses in her bouquet.

Escorting the attendants were the groom’s brother, Allen Schraufnagel of Abbotsford, as best man, and Gary Nienow, the bride’s twin brother, Gerald Johnson, a friend of the groom, and Noel Schraufnagel, another brother of the groom, as groomsmen. Ushering were Ronald Peters of Beaver Dam, the bride’s cousin, and Eldred Schraufnagel, uncle of the groom of Abbotsford, Wis.

Attending the ceremony in a white lace dress with blue accessories was the bride’s mother. The groom’s mother chose an off-white shade for her gown. Both women wore corsages of red roses and white carnations. Soloist for the event was the maid of honor, Kaye Nienow, singing "The Lord’s Prayer" and "The Wedding Prayer." Adding a special note to the occasion was the presence of the four grandmothers of the bridal couple.

Guests from Madison, Baltimore, Md., Minneapolis, Minn., Glidden, Ashland, Marshfield, Milwaukee, Edgar, Abbotsford, Colby and Beaver Dam, were present at the reception held at the home of the bride’s parents, followed by a supper in the church parlors.

Following a honeymoon in Chicago, the couple will take up residence in Colby where the groom, a graduate of Abbotsford High School and the University of Wisconsin, will teach history in the Colby High School. The bride, a graduate of Colby High School, is employed by the Colby State Bank.
