Boe, Ethel #2 (1 FEB 1893 - 18 NOV 1943)

Mrs. Henry Boe (nee Ethel Castner), 50, died at her home in the village Thursday afternoon, Nov. 18, after a lingering illness.

Ethel Castner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Castner, was born in Loyal township on Feb. 1, 1893. Her young, whose funeral was first held in the present Loyal Methodist church, died when Ethel was but a child of three years. After a few years which she spent with relatives and friends in various places, her father remarried, bringing to their home one with a mother’s love for the motherless children.

Following her graduation from the loyal high school, Miss Castner taught for a few years in the country schools of Clark county. She then continued her education at the State Teachers college in Oshkosh, and upon finishing her course there she taught in the primary grades at Eleva, Fond du Lac and Loyal.

She was married to Henry Boe of Eleva at her farm home in the town of Loyal on Nov. 12, 1919.

She was a member of the Loyal Methodist church and an earnest worker in its various activities, having taught the beginner’s class in Sunday school for many years, an active member of the Ladies’ Aid, the missionary societies, the Woman’s Society of Christian Service, and was also a faithful member of the Woman’s Temperance Union. She was a member of the local camp of Royal Neighbors of America and the American Legion Auxiliary.

While active in many good works outside the home, she was also a devoted, conscientious wife and mother.

Her nature was one that responded joyously to the lovely things in lifeflowers, the birds, music, art, little children, friendships.

Mrs. Boe is survived by her husband and her two daughters, Lillian and Beverly. She is the first deceased in a family of seven children. Those remaining are her sisters, Mrs. Cora Mehler of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Ray Kauffman of Madison, Misses Jeanette and Valda Castner of Marshfield, and Mrs. Orville Wichman of Loyal, and one brother, John Castner, of Clam Lake. Her father died in 1928. Her step-mother, Mrs. Nettie Castner, of Marshfield survives her.

In addition to the many beautiful floral tributes given in love and respect for Mrs. Boe and her dear ones, several gave money to be used as a memorial to her in some work of the church she so dearly loved.

Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church Monday at 2 p.m., following short services in the home. The Rev. M. E. Taylor officiated. Serving as pallbearers were V. O. Kauffman, Ray Prior, Jesse Raab, Chester Smith, Claude Catlin and Carl Christensen. The flowers were carried by Mrs. Dean Wolter, Mrs. J. R. Colby, Mrs. V. O. Kauffman, Mrs. Jesse Raab, Mrs. Chester Smith, Mrs. Fred Heiking, Mrs. Carl Christensen, Mrs. Walter Krahn, Mrs. H. E. Catlin and Mrs. W. I. Mack.

The hymn, "It is Well With My Soul," was sung by J. R. Colby, R. B. Colby, Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs. Calvin Prior. Mrs. Calvin Prior sang as a solo, "God be With You ‘Til We Meet Again." Mrs. Wicklund was accompanist.

Those from out of town who attended the services were Mrs. Cora Mehler of Washington, D. C.; John Castner of Clam Lake; Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Kauffman of Madison; Misses Jeanette and Valda Castner and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Castner of Marshfield; Mrs. Bernard Fischer and son, Donald McNamara, of Medford; Ole Boe of Plentywood, Mont.; Mrs. Andrew Dahl of Dagmar, Mont.; Oscar Engen and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Knutson of Eleva; Mr. and Mrs. Ole Ansen and Mr. and Mrs. Sig Johnson of Star Prairie; Miss Clareen Hammerstrum of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wicker of Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. George Wicker and Gilbert Wicker of Colby, and Mrs. Morris Johnson and Miss Jeanette Tuely of Barron.

The Tribune adds its sympathy to that of friends and neighbors to the Boe family in the loss of a loved one.
