Schweke, Bernice (19 Oct. 1914 - 24 Oct. 2005)

Bernice Anna Schweke, was ushered into the Heavenly Church on October 24th, just six days after her 91st birthday, in the Year of Our Lord 2005. She was born in Sweden, WI, on October 19, 1914, one of ten children born to Andy and Bertha Anderson. She received new birth as a child of God through Holy Baptism, and was confirmed into the Christian faith in Drummond, WI. On September 14, 1934, she and Alvin Henry Schweke were united in Holy Matrimony in Minnesota. Their marriage bore them three children; two sons, Vernon (deceased) and James, and one daughter, Janice.

Bernice was a resident of Rusk County since 1947. She and her husband, Al, along with their family, owned and operated the Pla Mor Bowling Lanes in Ladysmith for many years. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ladysmith. Throughout her life, Bernice enjoyed camping, fishing, and needle work. She loved to bowl and was a card playing enthusiast, but her most precious and prized interest was her grandchildren. Bernice greeted everyone with a smile, and was a great friend to all who knew her.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Al; one son, Vernon, four sisters; Cora Bogush, Myrtle Sandonato, Mildred Martell, and Phyllis Kissel, also, two brothers; Louis Anderson and Jack Anderson. Those who survive are her children, Jim (Sue) Schweke, and Janice (Phil) Hakala, one brother; Russell Anderson, Seattle, WA, and two sisters; Francis DeLadurantaye, and JoAnn Bjork, both of Grandview, WI. Also surviving are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bernice will also be sadly missed by other relatives and her many neighbors and friends.

The people of St. John’s Lutheran Church are honored to host the service of Christian burial for our dear sister, Bernice, on this 28th day of October AD 2005. Internment assisted by the Nash-Jackan Funeral Home, will take place following the luncheon at the West Spencer Cemetery, Spencer, WI.
