Herrington, Harley A. (9 Oct. 1915 - 13 Oct. 2008)

WITHEE -- Harley A. Herington, 93, of Withee, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Withee. The Rev. Thomas Myhre will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, town of Hixon. Serving as pallbearers will be Denis Woik, Erik Sorensen, Gregg Kenyon, Kevin Franks, Tim Johnson, Mike Johnson, Bill Flink and Luke Johnson.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Withee.

Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Herington was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Brazil, Ind., the son of Emory and Bertha (Long) Herington. In 1933, he graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

On Aug. 9, 1941, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ladysmith, Harley was united in marriage to the former Agnes Petras. She preceded him in death June 28, 2000.

Mr. Herington owned and operated a dairy farm in Tony for 16 years and later purchased a farm in Withee. In addition to his farming operation, in 1960 Harley became manager for Northern Freeport Silo and later entered into a business partnership with his son and created Tri-County Equipment of Withee.

Harley was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Withee, and former assessor of the town of Grow, past Flambeau School Board member, member of Owen-Withee Lions Club, past member of the Owen City Council, formerly on the church council of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ladysmith, and Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee.

Mr. Herington will be remembered as a strong supporter of Owen-Withee athletics, building of the new elementary school and friend and supporter of the Bike Path. He also was honored as an Owen Citizen of the Year.

The Heringtons enjoyed traveling and wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz., for 10 years.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Donna (Sid) Sorensen, Huntley, Ill., Diane (Ray) Johnson, Tomah, and Larry (Diane) Herington, Owen. Eight grandchildren, Kimberly Cox, Erik Sorensen, Teri (Gregg Kenyon) Johnson, Amy (Kevin) Franks, Tim (Anne) Johnson, Kari (Mike) Johnson, Tina (Bill) Flink and Lara (Luke) Johnson; 17 great-grandchildren, Cody, Brett, Bailey, Kendra, Parker, Justine, Logan, Breanne, Emma, Madisen, Myah, Ethan, Seth, Bergen, Larissa, Dylan and Brede.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Ethel Heath, and brother, Robert Herington. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Mr. Herington's name are encouraged to do so to the Herington Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.
