Capes, Edna M. (1 MAY 1899 - 8 MAR 1947)

Final rites for Mrs. George Capes were conducted from the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin), Tuesday afternoon, March 11, at two o’clock. Rev. C. S. Matthews read the rites and interment was made in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Richard Rabaska, Sr., and Richard Rabaska, Jr., A. M. Wilson, Bert Morley, George Funk and Ben Radowitz.

Mrs. Capes, nee Edna Mae Markee, had been in poor health for the past several years, but her sudden passing away at her home on Fourth St. early Saturday morning, came as a surprise and a shock to her family and many relatives and friends.

Edna Mae Markee, the daughter of Charles and Bertha Markee, was born May 1, 1899, at Mt. Tabor, Wis. At the age of 12 years she moved with her parents to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), where she made her home until June 28, 1923, when she was united in marriage to George Elmer Capes. To this union six children were born.

Surviving her are her husband, five daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Joyce) Turner, Doris, Jeanette, Bonnie, Georgia, and a son, George Elmer, Jr., her father and stepmother, and three sisters, Mrs. Wm. (Dorothy) Franz, Mrs. Etta Otto, Owen, and Mrs. Paul (Nina) Pederstuen, Menominee, a brother, Clarence Markee, Owen, and a host of relatives and friends.

Among those from away that attended the funeral services were, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Markee, Mrs. Jim Markee, Mrs. Tishe Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Jacobs and Mrs. Lila Sanders, Hillsboro; Mr. and Mrs. John Markee, Pittsville; Mr. and Mrs. James Kurtz, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pederstuen, Menominee, and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Capes, Eau Claire.
