Haskins, George Edward (6 September 1888 - 5 September 1948)

George Edward Haskins, 60, of Neillsville, died at his farm home Sunday, September 5, 1948, at 12:45 p.m. of a heart attack. His body lay in state at the Georgas Funeral Home until Wednesday, when it was taken home. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home, the Rev. Virgil Nulton officiating. Burial will take place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mr. Haskins was born in Zell, S. D. September 6, 1888. He came with his parents to Phillips, Wis., as a child. After his education in Wisconsin rural schools he did logging work throughout the state. He was a veteran of World War I.

He went west and worked in the harvest fields for a time, and later was a milk hauler and a farmer. In 1931, he married Miss Blanche Morris in St. Cloud, Minn. Mrs. Haskins survives him, as does his mother, Mrs. Louisa Reals Haskins, who lives in Neillsville with his sister, Mrs. William Jake. A brother, Leon, of Madison, also survives.

Funeral services for George Haskins, who died Sunday, September 5, were held September 9 at 2:00 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home, the Rev. Virgil Nulton officiating. The American Legion conducted the Military aspects of the funeral, as Mr. Haskins was a veteran of World War I.

Pallbearers were: Orville Jake, William Jake, Jr., Harley Jake, Richard Wallace, Ronald Wallace and Robert Wallace.

 

Miss Hazel Millard and Miss Donna Bush sang "Softly and Tenderly" and "In The Garden" accompanied by Mrs. Florence Counsell. Flower ladies were Mrs. George Holte and Mrs. August Nemitz.

 

Those who came from out-of-town to attend the services were Leon Haskins of Madison, a brother of the deceased, and Charles Cripps, both of Madison; Mrs. F. E. Winn of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Scott and Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Burgess of Tony, Wis.; Mrs. Lena Southand of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gilberts of Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Effner Nelson of Ladysmith; Mr. L. O’Donnell, Mrs. J. F. Gallagher and Mrs. James Hart, all of Milton Junction.
