Weix, Ruth M. (Mertens) (Apr 7, 1923 - Aug 18, 2008)

Ruth M. Weix, age 85 years, of Colby passed away Monday, August 18, 2008, at the Colonial Center in Colby where she had resided since November 8, 2006.

Ruth was born April 7, 1923, in Thorp to Oscar and Katherine (Heiman) Mertens on her parents farm. She attended parochial school at St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Thorp and graduated from the 8th grade. After her schooling she worked as a house helper on various farms in the area helping out with cleaning and daily chores. Later on Ruth was employeed at the Blue Moon cheese factory in Thorp.

On June 22, 1944, Ruth married Raymond Joseph Weix. They farmed just west of Colby, Wis. Ruth later became a CNA and worked for over 28 years at the Colonial Center in Colby caring for and helping the residents there. Following her retirement, she continued working at the Colonial Center part time. Her husband Raymond passed away Nov. 2, 1997.

Her family remembers Ruth a being a great baker and all around great cook. She enjoyed her gardening and canning. Raising her chickens and making sausage brought smiles to her children. Ruth’s children remember Mom for always having concern for everyone, and making sure no one left her house hungry and everyone was always welcome in her home. "The door was always OPEN."

Ruth was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, The Christian’s Mother Society, Catholic Order of Forester’s, a former 4H leader, and a former member of the local Homemakers Club.

Ruth is lovingly survived by her children, Bonnie (David) Burich of Colby, Rose Ann (Al) Symicek of Whitehall, Jackie (Thomas) Younker of Tomahawk, Nancy Pugh of Oshkosh, Sharon (James) Acker of Rib Lake, Deborah (Russel) Lee of Omro, Janet (Karl) Jorgensen of Winneconne, Marjorie (Gary) Youngbauer of Franklin, Beatrice (Francis) Stockheimer of Stratford, John (Nancy) Weix of Oak Creek and Thomas (Sue) Weix of Colby, Wis. She is further survived by 31 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four sisters; and three brothers. Also survived by many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two granddaughters, Tracy Lloyd and Angela Youngbauer; two brothers; and three sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby, Wis. Father Anandran Rajendran, Pastor, will preside. Ruth’s eight son-in-laws will act as her pallbearers. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Colby, Wis. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and on Saturday at the church in Colby from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. A Christian Mother’s Society Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in Abbotsford, Wis.
