Gates, Katherine #2 (6 JUL 1859 - 21 JUL 1904)

Mrs. Katherine Mead Gates, wife of our former townsman, James L. Gates, and herself a resident here (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) a number of years, and much beloved by all, died at the beautiful home on Prospect Av., Milwaukee, at 7 o’clock Thursday evening, July 21st, 1904, of tuberculosis, aged 45 years, after an illness of two years. She spent last winter in California seeking health. Funeral services were held in Milwaukee, and the remains were brought here in a special car, arriving Sunday morning, resting at the residence of R. J. MacBride until 2 in the afternoon, when they were followed by a large number of local friends to the cemetery and with a prayer by Rev. G. W. Longenecker, consigned to the earth in the family lot. The Sentinel has the following:

"The deceased was born at Northwood, N.H., July 6, 1859, and resided there until 1885, when she was married to James L. Gates of Neillsville. Mr. and Mrs. Gates lived at Neillsville until 1887, when they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mrs. Gates was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and also of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Gates is survived by a husband, two children, Harry, 16 years old, and Helen, 14 years old.

The funeral will be held at the residence Saturday afternoon and at 7:20 o’clock the remains will be taken in a special car over the Northwester road to Neillsville, where interment will be made."
