The Merrillan Leader’s editor notes the following: "Changes in the game law have been enacted this year with it would be well for hunters to take note of. Partridges cannot he hunted at all without license this year, but a dog may be used. A license is required of any person carrying a gun in the woods during deer season. A license is required for rabbits and squirrels. The same license fee, one dollar, covers all hunting. The deer season is the last twenty days of November. The prohibition of quail shooting is extended to Sept. 1, 1903."

Paha, Wash., where the Smiths and Ferdinand Wollenberg are, rejoices over the advent of a newsy little paper to its midst. The Hub. as the paper is named, speaks of Will Smith as manager of a new hardware store, as well as the lumber yard. A neat four inch ad. calls attention to "F. M. Smith, carpenter and builder and general contractor." In another column we note the following: "Amy Smith returned from the Pullman College yesterday where she had been taking a course in advanced studies."

Painters, Shanks and Cummings are at work painting the school house inside and out and when done will make a great improvement to the city’s hive of learning.

Mrs. Frank Buttke went to Merrillan Monday where she will visit with Frank’s relatives.

Dr. Barber leaves this morning for New York where he will further advance his profession. He will not return until Sept. 12.

Edna Raymond of Christie has been visiting relatives and attending the tent meetings.

John Drummond and family are now at home in their own home, they having moved last week. They have one of the neatest little homes in Greenwood, it being a story and a half house finished in modern style. They will thoroughly appreciate not having to move about as those who rent too frequently have to do.

The 15-months-old boy of John Severson and wife, which died last Wednesday, was buried Thursday afternoon, the funeral being conducted from the home of Rev. G. C. Andrews. The child had been sick for eight weeks.

Carrie Sanford of Great Falls, Mont. was the guest of Mrs. W. H. Hilton over Sunday. She is just returning from the Pan-American exposition at Buffalo. Loyal Tribune.

As will be seen by the York items, lightening did some of its dread work in that section last Sunday. F. J. Klinke, who with his family was visiting his daughter near by (rest of article cut off).

M. H. Wright and Herbert Clute went to Fairchild yesterday with a lot of bees which they will place near the buckwheat fields during the homey period.

John Stoneburg and wife expect to start Monday for their western home after spending a few weeks with relatives and old acquaintances in this section.

Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Killinger and daughter, Beulah, of Stevens Point and Mrs. O. H. White and daughter, Irma, of Eau Claire spent Sunday with their sister, Mrs. Fred Richmond. Mr. Killinger is conductor on the Central between Abbotsford and Minneapolis.

The 84th birthday of Mathew M. Marvin was celebrated Saturday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. M. E. Wilson, who lives west of town. A large company of children, grand children and great grand children, besides numerous friends, were present and made the occasion a memorable one for the old gentleman.

The deal is about closed whereby the Lutheran society will buy the M.E. church building and lot. This will leave the Methodists to look up a new site and then go at once to erecting the new building.

Fred Schwarze has purchased the restaurant business of Mrs. Geo. Cummings and takes possession in a few days.

Surely the kissing bug, whatever that may be, has struck Greenwood. At least some unknown insect struck Ed. Daugherty on the cheek one night recently and made itself felt by a sting. Contrary to the usual effect of a sting with him this made him feel sick at his stomach and the pain on his cheek was severe. In a short time it turned black and has scabbed over several times since, each time the color being lighter. Mr. Daugherty says he is not at all partial to kissing, especially of that nature.

Services at M. E. Church Sunday will be as follows: Sunday school at 10:30. Young peoples Bible class meets at the same hour conducted by Mrs. Ruth Kloster, class meeting at 11:30, preaching service at 8 o’clock subject, "God does not interfere with our personal freedom." The doors of the church will be opened for reception of members. The Epworth League will hold their meeting at the close of the evening service, subject: God’s requirements. Deut. 10: 13-14. The meeting will be led by Lola Mason.
