Holmes, James (6 June 1878 - 13 Mar. 1956)

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 P.M. at the Methodist church in Unity for James Holmes, age 77, retired Unity farmer who died of a stroke Tuesday morning at the home of his son, James Holmes at Wisconsin Rapids, where he had been living the past three years. Rev. Harvey Schall will officiate at the services and burial will be made in the Unity cemetery. The body will repose at the Taylor Funeral Home at Wisconsin Rapids until Friday.

Mr. Holmes was born in the town of Unity on June 6, 1878, and married the former Miss Hannah Jones of Colby in 1908. They lived in Glendive, Mont., for a few years after their marriage and then returned to the home farm at Unity which Mr. Holmes operated for many years. He was also employed as a cheesemaker. The Holmes also resided at Rib Lake for some time.

Surviving are his widow, six children, Leroy Holmes of Milwaukee, James Holmes of Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Fred (Evelyn) Bailey of Rice Lake, Miss Rose Holmes of Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Robert (Bernice) Yaeger of Boyd and Mrs. Everett (Nola) Taylor of Wisconsin Rapids; a sister, Mrs. Herbert Binning of Unity; two half-brothers, Peter Lydickson of Loyal and Andrew Lydickson of Riplinger; and eight grand children. One child died in infancy and four brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
