Baird, George Washington (19 June 1870 - 28 March 1946)

George Washington Baird, 75, was interred in the Neillsville Cemetery Monday, April 1, (1946), following funeral services from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. F. A. Fahlgren officiated. He died Thursday afternoon, March 28, (1946), at his home on South Court Street, Neillsville, after a lingering illness.

Mr. Baird was born in Pennsylvania June 19, 1870, to Samuel and Salline Patterson Baird. When he was about 11 years old his parents moved to Clarence, Ia., where he made his home until 1920. During his residence in Iowa he engaged in farming and carpenter work. When he came to Clark County he located on a farm south of Neillsville. In 1935 he retired and moved to Neillsville.

On February 28, 1895, he was married at Clarence, Ia., to Cora Mabel DeWell. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1945. Six children were born to them, one of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. M. J. (Grace) Budde, Neillsville; Mrs. William (Esther) Crocker, Milwaukee; Mrs. Edwin (Mildred) Meyer and Richard Baird, Marshfield; Delbert Baird, Neillsville. One brother Elliott of Toddville, Ia., also survives.

The pallbearers were: James Syth, Eric Schoenherr, Cy Haskins, John Mertes, Emil Mattson and Henry Bartell.

Those from out-of-town who attended the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. William Crocker and family of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Meyer and family, Mildred Wunrow and Richard Baird, all of Marshfield.
