Benz, Wilhelmene (3 Nov. 1848 - 29 Dec. 1933)

Mrs. Wilhelmene Benz passed away at the home of her son Frank Benz in the village of Abbotsford, Friday, Dec. 29, 1933, at the age of 85 years, the cause of her death being double pneumonia. She was taken ill Christmas Eve.

Mrs. Benz, whose maiden name was Wilhelmene Roder, was born in Germany, November 3, 1848. She was united in marriage to August Benz, September 19, 1872, in that country.

Mr. and Mrs. Benz came to America in 1885 and located at Markesan where they resided 16 years then moved to Sherry where they lived until moving to Abbotsford eight years ago to make their home with their son Frank. The husband and father passed away nearly five years ago.

Mrs. Benz was a member of the Ev. Lutheran church and an everyday Christian, her life a blessing to all within the sphere of its influence. It is difficult to pay fitting tribute to these noble mothers. She was always willing to cheer and aid the suffering. When sickness and death came to her, as it comes to all, (two lines of text unreadable) suffering, but to no avail.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Nehring of Cambria, and two sons, William of Nekoosa and Frank of Abbotsford, and one brother, August Roeder of Markesan. Also, Mrs. Louise Marti of Sherry, who had made her home with the Benz family since she was a small child.

Funeral services were held from the Ev. Lutheran church in Abbotsford Monday, Jan. 1, 1934, with burial at Sherry, Wis., the Rev. J. Brandt officiating.
