Meyers, Caroline (Apr. 1831 - Dec. 1933)

Mrs. Caroline Meyers of Phillips, formerly of Abbotsford, passed away after a weeks illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Breitengross, with whom she resided at Phillips.

Mrs. Meyers was born in 1831 in Germany and came to America at the age of fifteen years, locating in New York City where she was married to Martin Meyers. To this union, eight children were born, four of whom survive: Mrs. Anna Breitengross, Mrs. Margaret Thompson, of Phillips and A. J. Meyers of Abbotsford and George Meyers of Spokane, Wash.

The family moved to Wisconsin before the advent of the railroads and traveled by boat to Gill’s landing, settling on a farm near Weyauwega. Mrs. Meyers was a practical nurse for many years at Marshfield and Abbotsford, Wis. Mr. Meyers died 30 years ago after which she spent summers with her daughter Mrs. Thompson, and the winters with Mrs. Breitengross. On her hundredth birthday anniversary she traveled by automobile from Phillips to Oak Center. She celebrated her 102nd birthday anniversary Sunday, April 9.

Until a year ago, one of her pastimes was to read. She also helped with the housework and enjoyed good health.

Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Anna Breitengross. Burial will take place at Phillips.
