Chester B. "Chet" Sniegowski, age 89, of Thorp passed away on Saturday June 21, 2008, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp, with Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Burial followed in Old St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery, also in Thorp. Pallbearers were Bob Hmielak, Al Ciolkosz, Ken Koltis, Scott Schultze, Greg Sniegowski, and Stanley "Stash" Sniegowski.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. parish Rosary, and on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Chester Bruno Sniegowski was born on July 9, 1918, in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, to Jacob and Joanna (Borchardt) Sniegowski. He received his education at the Reseburg Country School and the world around him. As a youth, he worked on the family farm. Later, he worked in Chicago, before entering the United States Army and serving in World War II. After his discharge from the military, Chet returned to Thorp and together with his brothers, built and operated S-B Repair in the Town of Reseburg. He later owned and operated Club 73, and after that he ran a stump removal service.

Chet love to hunt and fish, and did a lot of both. He was a member of the Thorp Sportsman’s Club, the Rock Dam Rod & Gun Club, Thorp American Legion Post 118, Thorp Moose Lodge and was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church.

He is survived by one brother, Florian (Caroline) Sniegowski of Withee, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Chet was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters: Helen Hmielak, Harriet Lutz, Jean Koltis, Loretta Schultze, and Alice Ciolkosz; and seven brothers: Joseph, Edward, Casimir, Stanley, Walter, Frank, and Erwin.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
