Thomas Henry Lage (1860 - ?)

T. H. Lage.--There is not throughout the broad area of our prosperous county a more enterprising and public spirited citizen and business man than the proprietor of the solid stone building dry goods store, Mr. T. H. Lage.

Mr. Lage came to Barron in 1893 as principle of the city high school, in which position he remained for five years to the credit of himself and to the best interests of the city. He has been in business for two years and now has the finest display of dry goods in the city or in the surrounding county. He carries a large stock to which he is adding daily, the active business controlled requiring constant accessions of new goods and those goods of the latest patterns and novelties. Mr. Lage is always found taking an active and influential part in promoting the material welfare of the city.

TEACHERS OF BARRON--INSTITUTE BEING CONDUCTED AT CHETEK WELL ATTENDED. (Special Correspondence)

Chetek, Wis., July 13--The teachers of Barron County are enjoying a feast of pedagogical instruction at the institute which is being held here. The institute is being conducted by President J. F. Sims of the Stevens Point Normal, Supt. J. T. Hooper of Ashland, Prof. L. H. Clark of the River Falls Normal and County Superintendent T. H. Lage.

The teachers of the county are manifesting great interest in the institute work and superintendent Lage is congratulating himself both as to the attendance and enthusiasm of the teachers under his charge as well as the excellency of the instruction which the institute conductors are presenting.

A pleasant surprise was the visit of the "Boss" or head of the educational department of the state, Supt. C. P. Cary who arrived this morning. Supt. Cary gave an inspiring talk on some of the things accomplished for the rural schools in the past two years; such as the appointment of a man who could devote his whole time to the rural schools and the creation of the "School Board Convention."

Mr. Cary believes that there is to be great revival of interest in the common schools in the near future. A summer school follows the institute under the management of Supt. Lage, principal Paulus of Cheteck.

Lage, T. H.

T. H. Lage, principal of the schools at Withee last year, who was discharged by the school board during the holiday vacation, won his suit in circuit court last week for the salary due him for the balance of the school year, an item of some $450.  A number of the students had become dissatisfied and became troublesome soon after Mr. Lage began his school work which ended in his dismissal by the school board.  The testimony showed however, that Mr. Lage conducted an orderly school until the students became dissatisfied with his manner of conducting things.  The jury allowed him his wages in full for the balance of the year.
