In Remembrance of Metty Roberts

We would like to begin by saying how loved Metty was by her whole family and her many friends.

She truly loved each and every person in her life. If there was something she could help with, she’d be there. She would never turn her back on anyone. In saying this, we would like to point out that our father, Bruce Rakestraw, was much more than a "life long friend." Glenn and Metty loved him very much, and that is why he is their adopted son. We grew up knowing Glenn and Metty as grandparents and have many memories with them. Metty drove us to school every morning in her wood paneled station wagon with "magic" hidden seats in the way back. If we were good, she would let us sit back there, which was the coolest.

We walked to the "the store" (Russell’s Hardware) every day after school, where we always had permission, from Glenn, to sneak in the "candy closet" and pick out a treat. Speaking of treats, one of the best ever were Metty’s delicious chocolate chip cookies, which were our father’s favorite cookies. About twice a month, dad would receive a few dozen warm chocolate chip cookies, which we always tried to sneak. We could go on and on, but these are just a few memories that we have with Glenn and Metty and the Roberts family.

In the end, Metty is survived by five children, 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, one sister, three brother-in-laws, including the wonderful John Roberts and a hardware store that is proud to be called Russell’s of Neillsville.

From our hearts & memories,

Amanda Mortenson (Rakestraw)
