Thorp Wis. Locals including Eidsvold & Bobb Mills

 

Wit this number the Courier begins the fifth year of existence.

 

Hi Palmer put in two camps in 27 last week.  His crews number over seventy men.

 

J. R. Ditton, of Black River Falls, who has been chopping wood for R. A. Burss, was found dead in his bed at R. A. Burss' yesterday morning having died suddenly from some cause during the night.

 

*Mose Paquette from Buckhorn Crossing visited old friends here last week.

 

Arthur Woldt came up from Arpin last Thursday returning Saturday.

 

Mrs. Willis Boardman and daughter, Nettie, drove to Thorp last Friday.

 

On account of the Helser Mill burning last week Carl Miller is at home.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Warner attended Relief Corps at Thorp last Saturday.

 

There was a dance at **Andrew Brenner's last Saturday night.  Those who attended from here report a good time.

 

Mary Kass visited at her parents last Sunday.

 

Mrs. Dygart and daughter Gladys drove to Thorp last Sunday and had dinner with Mrs. Selden.

 

Miss Burnham of Stanley attended church in Eidsvold last Sunday afternoon.

 

Susie Ferdon and Rachael Warner from Stanley attended the dance at Brenner's Saturday night.

 

William Ogle died at his home on Saturday morning the funeral was held on Monday.  The whole community................missing content.

 

Mrs. Bob Telford visited at Mrs. Ed Bobbs Tuesday.

 

As Mr. Cook had not started on his vacation he preached here Sunday.  He intends starting Saturday.

 

Mrs. Tom and Ed Bobb called on Mrs. Butterfield Wednesday afternoon.

 

Mrs. Ott visited at her parental home Tuesday.

 

Mrs. E. W. Bobb called on Mrs. Borhn Wednesday evening.

 

Rev. Hoffman of Chippewa visited at Henry Wendt's Wednesday and in the evening gave a very interesting address to a good crowd.

 

Marvin Harness had a farmer's phone put in his home Tuesday.

 

Will Tisdale, P. E. Bobb and Clyde were putting the wire on the new telephone poles from the Gunderide corner to Mrs. Hodnett's Thursday.

 

Mr. E. Ott, Mrs. P. E. Bobb and Hannah called at Mrs. Olson's and Mrs. Neff Thursday afternoon.

 

P. E. Bobb drove his stock to Thorp Friday and took his hogs to Withee Saturday.

 

A baby girl arrived at Mr. and Mrs. Olson's last Tuesday. (most likely Bertha, the daughter of Charles and Saravira Olson of Reseburg Twp., Clark Co., Wis., please contact us if you can verify it).

 

P. E. Bobb called on Mr. Borhn Friday evening.

 

Mr. Bohn delivered his stock in Thorp Saturday.

 

Mrs. Ed Einfeldt and daughter Ruth visited at grandpa Einfeldt's Friday, returning Saturday.

 

Elias Ott and wife drove to Thorp Monday.

 

John Bobb came down from Ladysmith Saturday to spend Sunday at home.  Gorden Briggs and E. Shores drove to Owen to aid John with phonograph, etc., on the velvet special on Monday morning.

 

Dan Colby and wife and Miss Lenore Colby, Stracker and Ebbe visited at William Colby's Thursday evening.

 

Mr. Henderson visited at Butterfields Friday night.  He went to Worden on Saturday.  His brother and four ladies autoed him back home Sunday.

 

Most of the neighbors in this area attended the funeral of ***Mrs. Peterson (Mrs. Howard "Bessie M." Peterson, daughter of George and Charlotte Crane Courter of Reseburg, Twp., Clark Co., Wis.  She was just 30 yrs. old and had been married only 6 yrs. See the additional notes below)

 

Mrs. C. J. Bell of Little Chute is the guest of her father, C. Buehlman and family here (Thorp, Wis.).

 

Fresh oysters, the big solid packed kind, the Seal shipped in pint cans and in bulk at Snyders.

 

Mrs. Wm. Schoch went to Loyal on Thursday last to visit a few days with P. Schoch and family.

 

Mrs. F. Brown of Chippewa Falls spent the latter part of the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Rhea.

 

Game warden Teldeman has been doing considerable business in his line in this vicinity the past few weeks.

 

Mr. F. D. Jackey and daughter, Doris, and Mrs. H. C. Tiedeman spent Saturday afternoon in Eau Claire.

 

I. B. LaGasse spent Sunday afternoon at Marshfield with a number of Fraternity friends from Lawrence College.

 

Mr. and Mrs. L. Moore and son, of Downing are visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. David here for a few days.

 

A dance will be given at the Anyzawski and _alinowski hall on Friday evening, Nov. 15.  Music by the Roseburg Orchestra  Adv.

 

John Strugala, who is employed as section foreman on the Owen and Ladysmith line near Sheldon, was home over Sunday.

 

Geo. Schmidt, of Detroit, Mich., arrived here on Saturday, being called here by the illness of his mother, Mrs. John Schmidt.

 

The roads in all directions are in excellent condition and automobile owners are taking advantage of them before winter sets in.

 

Mrs. John Ambrose and son Claire, of Owen, and Mrs. Webster Talent of Minneapolis, were guests of Mrs. John Henderson here on Sunday last.

 

Supervisors Dr. W. R. McCutcheon, John Warner, John Verkullen and Theo. Broeren are attending the annual session of the county board at Neillsville this week.

 

All of our local hunters, which includes a large proportion of the male population, have gone into the woods hunting during the past four or five days.  Many outside hunters have also arrived and taken to the woods in quest of deer.
