Johnson, Alice O. (12 DEC 1858 - 11 MAR 1945)

Alice Oritha Roberts was born Dec. 12, 1858 near Rio, Wis. She passed away Sunday afternoon, March 11, 1945, at the age of 86 years, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry N. Hilts, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.). Her parents were John and Mary Ann Roberts. She was the youngest of a family of ten children, all having preceded her in death. At the age of two years she moved with her family to a farm two miles west of Augusta.

Feb. 27, 1878, she was united in marriage to W. Elson Johnson. They established their home in Augusta. Six children were born to this union. One son died early in infancy and her husband died twenty years ago. Mrs. Johnson was a resident of Augusta until eight years ago when she moved to Owen to live permanently with her daughter.

She was a charter member of the Eastern Star and in her younger years was very faithful in attending all chapter meetings. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Outside her home her greatest interest was in her church. Her father was one of eight who organized the First Baptist Church of Augusta, and she was a faithful, loyal and contributing member for 77 years.

Sixteen years ago she had the misfortune to suffer two serious injuries, and had since been a semi-invalid, but she bore her cross with true Christian fortitude and patience. Her Christian life and convictions of right were always an example to those who associated with her. As a true mother she was unsurpassed, and always had the welfare of her children and grandchildren at heart.

She leaves to mourn her passing, Ray E. Johnson of Iron River; Dr. Lloyd W., of Pittsburgh, Pa.; A. Earl of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Harry N. Hilts of Owen; Mrs. Myron K. Elbertson of Milwaukee, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Hatch Funeral Home and interment was made in the East Side Cemetery in Augusta, with Rev. W.J. Doanelly of the First Baptist Church officiating.

Out of town visitors at the Hilts home were: Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Johnson of Iron River; Dr. Lloyd W. Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Johnson of Dallas, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Myron K. Elbertson of Milwaukee; Miss Elizabeth Hilts, Columbia, Mo.; Lt. and Mrs. A.E. Johnson Jr. of Rice Lake; and Mrs. M.C. Cress of Wau…(the rest of my copy was cut off)
