Miss Minola Elger of Eau Claire spent Sunday with her father here.

Several members of the W.S.C.S. attended a fellowship meeting at the Methodist church in Merrillan Tuesday afternoon of last week.

Fred Newton of Alma Center is substituting for Mrs. Mech, local English teacher, who is visiting her husband in New York.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church here last Wednesday for Melvin Smith. He died suddenly in the state of Washington, where he had been employed in a war plant. Mr. Smith was 37 years of age and a graduate of the Humbird high school with the class of 1926. He is survived by his wife and two children, besides his brothers and sisters.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jenswold have purchased the King residence from Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Flood and expect to move into town some time this spring. The house is occupied by the Jerome Dignin family.

Guy Smith came from Freeport, Ill., Monday to attend the funeral of his brother, Melvin, and to spend a few days at the home of his brother, Steve, and family.

Clem Trader has returned from the hospital in Madison, where he underwent a major operation. He is convalescing at his home east of the village.

Pfc. Herbert Giloy writes from Germany that he was in the Battle of the Bulge last December. He says, "They sure threw plenty at us but we were lucky through it all. Most of the towns are pretty well blown up. I have seen lots of wrecked German equipment. The snow has been gone since Febraury 1.
