Colby, Walter A. (8 OCT 1893 - 8 SEP 1945)

Walter A. Colby, raised in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), and a resident here until 1914, died suddenly at his home in Ossining, N.Y., Sept. 8, 1945. The Citizen Register of Ossining, of Sept. 9th publishes the following:

"Apparently in perfect health while attending the annual clam bake of Cambridge Instrument Co. at Croton Point, Saturday, Walter A. Colby, 51, electrical engineer at Cambridge, was stricken suddenly with a heart attack. Driving his own car he returned to Ossining, but died yesterday at his home, 56 Linden Av.

A native of Thorp, Wis., Mr. Colby who was born on Oct. 8, 1893 was the son of the late Frank and Lula Twist Colby, who resided at Ocala, Florida for the past 25 years.

Walter graduated from the Thorp High School with the class of 1913 and also completed a course in the Beiss Electrical College at Washington, D.C. He became employed at the Cutler-Hammer Co. in Milwaukee after his graduation as an electrical engineer and remained there until 1927 when he accepted a position in that capacity with the Cambridge Instrument Co., at Ossining, N.Y.

Mr. Colby was a member of the Highland Methodist Church of Ossining, and its financial secretary as well as a member of the official board. He formerly belonged to the Ossining Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Hickman of Point of Rocks, Maryland, a son Walter Jr., four daughters, the Misses Judith and Cecelia Colby of Ossining, Mrs. Margaret Decker, widow of Lt. Warren Decker, killed in action, and Mrs. Betty Orser whose husband, Ensign Ervin Orser, Naval Flyer, is still missing; three sisters, Miss Stella Weaver of Fargo, N.D., Miss Cora B. Colby and Mrs. Fred Gay (Lenore Colby) of Ocala, Fla.

Funeral services were held Sept. 12th at St. Paul’s Church at Point of Rocks, Md., Rev. Leon P.F. Vauthier officiating, and burial taking place in the parish cemetery."

Stan- so happy you found this- We had no idea it exsisted. Walter was my grandfather. He is in the photo's I sent for Thorp High School.
