Ewert, Herman F. (11 Oct. 1890 - 21 Oct. 1954)

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Lulloff Funeral Home for Herman F. Ewert. 64, who died of a heart attack at his cottage at Pier Lake near Tripoli Thursday afternoon. Mr. Ewert apparently died while sawing wood and the body was found by a hunter a short time afterward.

The Rev. C. Vander Stoep officiated and burial was made in the Unity cemetery. Military rites were conducted. Otto Atcherson was color bearer and the guards were Ray Binning, and John W. Johnson. Pallbearers were Fred Loughead, Ed Mews, Stewart Salter, Gust Carlson, Rudy Pfab and Alvin Weix of the local Legion Post. The firing squad were members of the VFW of Colby, Wis.

Two hymns, "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Lead Kindly Light," were sung by Mrs. George Miller Sr., Mrs. Corwin Dallman and Sharon Olson, accompanied by Mrs. J. A. Olson on the piano.

Out of town relatives and friends attending were Mrs. Hulda Keith, Mrs. Lester Underwood, Wilbur Schreiber, Ewert Keith and Eugene Strong of Dayton, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Abel and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Helmke, Park Falls; Mr. Otto Helmke, Mr. and Mrs. George Strohman and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ewert, Marshfield; Edwin Ewert and Mrs. Irene Lynn, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ewert, Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. John Peterson, Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Klein, Spencer; Mrs. Otto Russell and son of Loyal and others from nearby communities.

Mr. Ewert, who never married, was born in Clark County October 11, 1890 and farmed in the Town of Brighton for 35 years. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by a brother, Charles, Unity; a sister, Mrs. Hulda Keith, Dayton, Ohio; a half sister, Mrs. Alma Flink, Unity; and a half brother, Oscar Ewert, Marshfield.
